A different walk today. This time we went to a woods local to us...still a drive to get there, but not too far.
It is a very popular place for dog walkers, with several tracks to choose from, we chose the longest route which is about 2 1/2 miles.
It was a dry day, but very wet underfoot due to the rain we have had recently.
An abundance of fungi to amaze.
A very short glimpse of some sunshine...it didn't last for long.
Percy really enjoyed himself.

but not quite...
I have my dog by my side,
a faithful companion,
running off to sniff and explore,
returning to check that all is okay
then off again...alert to all possibilities.
Birds are singing, crows are cawing...
with only my thoughts interrupting
a running commentary
What would it be like to come and walk,
sit and talk,
a human companion by my side?
A different kind of experience
no doubt,
not the same lingering,
taking time to spot nature at its best
missed opportunities, sights and sounds perhaps..
